The Gurley Permeometer is an instrument for measuring the porosity or air permeability of materials which are too porous to be tested accurately or conveniently by means of the Densometer. Filter and tissue papers, paper and cloth felts, blotting, saturating, absorbent, and some types of bag papers, facial tissues, etc., may be tested with this instrument. It is suitable for testing papers which give Densometer readings of less than 10 seconds per 100 cc. air flow (using a standard Densometer having 20 oz. cylinder and 1.0 sq. in orifice). It cannot be used satisfactorily on ordinary types of paper, for which one of the various models of Densometer should be selected. |
